Black sun, 2022
Engraved brass, clock, wooden frame, shirt · Variable dimensions
Personal Chapel, Galerie ICI, Parise ICI, Paris
The Black Sun — a concept both alchemical and astronomical — refers to that which radiates without being seen: the black hole, the unconscious, the heart of matter. Sagittarius A, the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, radiates from 26,000 light-years away without ever being seen directly. The engraved brass and the clock attempt to measure that which escapes all human measurement. The shirt — the body’s envelope, an everyday object — embraces these concepts as one embraces what one cannot grasp: deep time made close, intimate, almost portable. That which is distant suddenly becomes something one can hold in one’s hands.
