Black habotai silk, resin · Variable dimensions

The cosmos as a bodily envelope — a cloak that absorbs light and folds in on itself. The black silk, stretched and hardened by resin, manifests an absence: the body is no longer there, but its shape persists, like an invisible mass that bends the space around it. Just as a black hole distorts space-time through its gravitational presence alone, the sculpture distorts our perception of space through the absence of what it once contained. We are cosmic matter organized into consciousness — and this cloak is the negative of this cosmic body: the universe observing itself, and keeping the trace of that gaze.
