White Altar (Time Fetish), 2015 ·

Wax, Uyuni salt crystal in resin, fluorescent paint · 110 × 50 × 35 cm L’Attrape-Couleurs, Lyon

The salt crystal comes from Uyuni — a mineral trace of oceans that have now disappeared, a memory of a distant geological past. An ode to deep time crystallized in matter. Wax and salt share this same quality: they retain within them the trace of their own formation, of their own duration. The altar as a threshold device — between the visible world and that which exceeds it, between scientific measurement and symbolic ritual. Fluorescent paint reveals a hidden dimension: it absorbs invisible light and re-emits it into the visible — the object emits something into space, as if the contained time radiated beyond its form.
